I thought te text was easy to follow. The typos are typical in the early editions of textbooks. It is succinct and straight forward. The author took care to make it easy on the eyes and not super heavy or needlessly thick.
I agree with some of the other reviews... this is by far the worst textbook I have ever read. I don't think anybody proofread or edited it. The discussion of topics within the chapters is all over the place. It doesn't have a nice flow at all. There are many discrepancies within the material and some of the information is just plain wrong. Some of the quiz questions at the end of the chapters are matched with the wrong answer.All of this makes it very difficult to learn the material. I find myself referencing other text books or looking things up on the internet just to double check the book's material and to gain a better understanding of what is being covered.This book is not worth your time or money.
Hematology in Practice is straight forward and I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a solid understanding of the most important concepts behind the tests performed in a modern hematology laboratory. Some textbooks today make it difficult for hematology students and lab prefessionals alike to figure out what it is that they "really need to know" to be effective and competent in the lab. Hematology in Practice addresses exactly this problem.In addition, this book will give a student an understanding that is more than good enough to pass general and categorical licensing exams. This text is not well written. At times it gives an adequate discussion of the material and at other times, it is very lacking. sometimes the end of chapter questions and discussion within the chapter do not line up. If you can avoid it, I do NOT recommend this text.
As an associate professor who has taught medcial laboratory technician students for the past 16 years, I find the Ciesla textbook to be far superior to any text I have used in the past. The book is clear and concise and includes a complete laboratory manual. What I especially like is that Ms. Ciesla did not "farm out" sections of the book for others to write. As a result, her writing style is consistent and understandable. My students love the book and I have used the book for 3 terms now.
This textbook has good information, but the material does not flow together. There are inconsistencies between different sections, and information that is just plain wrong. Not impressed with this textbook, and nor was my professor. She won't be using this book again in future semesters.
This is not your traditional dense and dry hematology textbook! Throughout the book, you can find fun historic facts relevant to the discoveries and studies of blood forming components and blood disorders. The author uses concise sentences accompanied with graphic explanations and high-resolution images, which provide an easy read for grasping the basic concepts in hematology. The case studies in the end of each section help reinforce the key concepts and draw connections to clinical presentation. I recommend this textbook to students considering a career as a CLS but with no prior clinical laboratory experiences. It is a good investment in gaining an overview of hematology in a clinical laboratory setting.
The book itself is in perfect condition. It also has good information. I noticed a few things like the reference ranges changed compared to the previous edition which is good.
