Tom Deans brings a much-needed message to the marketplace in "Every Family's Business." The true legacy of a family business has nothing to do with the business itself. It is the wealth that the business has created. If you have ever uttered (or heard your client utter) the words "this business will never leave the family," read this book immediately. Deans sheds light on what he calls the "longevity myth" surrounding family-owned businesses, and gives owners & their advisors permission to raise the topic of selling the business at the right time for the right price. Family businesses are either creating wealth or destroying it, according to Deans. After reading this book, business owners will know which camp their business falls into.
Recommended strongly by my daughter, who had heard a presentation by the author, and I must admit it is a cleverly written quick read with some good advice. For anyone with a family business, this one really does offer some excellent advice.
As a third generation business owner point of view needs to be heard.
