I thought this was an extremely interesting, informative, historically well-researched, and entertaining account of one group of people whose lives are enriched by their bond with animals, and who value the animals with whom we share this planet enough to help them when they can.
I throughly enjoy this book. I purchased a second copy to give to friends for a Christmas present. This ia a wonderful book for anyone who enjoys reading and learning about lighthouses, and is a lover of pets. Lots of stories about dogs, cats, horeses, mules, chickens etc., and the stories are funny and tender as well.
This is a great book about the pets that were with the caretakers of the Lighthouses. Even if you don't like to read books, you will like this one. The stories are very short for each pet. If you love animals and lighthouses, you will like this book. This book also includes a lot of photographs.
After visiting the Upper Peninsula and taking two shipwreck tours, this subject became very interesting to me. Who knew that many, if not most lighthouse keepers had pets of every kind, not just dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, and horses? A very interesting read for pet lovers.
This is a good collection of stories from all across the world. This focuses on all animals, from companions such as dogs and cats to work animals, like horses and cows. There are stories that focus more on the animals, others that focus more on the human masters. All in all, an excellent collection of stories that focus on generally overlooked parts of lighthouse lore.
