Edit: Okay so after a month, I found out to HOLD the photo, and it will expand. I stand corrected. Whew! Rating amended. (Long-touch, not tapping.)I snagged all of these in the series today, but guess what? I'd thought the paintings would render beautifully on my 8.9" Fire. Yeah, no. There's about 8 words of text for each painting, which are literally about 1.5 inches square, and a bunch of blank page.I wanted to use these as a teaching aid, but the images are far too tiny. So sad; neat books.

Rembrandt (which we had just seen) and Vermeer are heavy on the portraits although many of Vermeer's paintings appear to be of people engaged in an activity whether it be a trade or for pleasure.There was an occasional street scape or landscape like "View of Delft" to change it up some. Exactly how I would introduce Art to a young one. Just the title, the picture and let us stare and talk about what we see. And yes, you CAN see it bigger. Just tap on the picture. It won't answer to stretching, you have to tap. Then enjoy.I found the series very useful to me to refresh my own memory.
What an incredible collection! Johannes Vermeer's work is simply stunning. Girl With a Pearl Earring and The Milkmaid were two of my favorites. Stanley Cesar has done a great job putting together this collection by a true master of art
The book is for kids only if one merely wants to show them a painting and say "look at this picture."Vermeer is not a children's painter. Vermeer rewards viewing only after one has looked long and thought about painting.
Even though I knew all of these things it's good for beginners. It didn't tell a lot just a few things witch made it go by too quick though :( Other than that great book I recommend it and it's free witch is great because not a lot of One Direction books out there are free.
Perfect for our Classical Conversations group and also her Atelier art classes this fall. I wish I would have found them last fall but better late than never!
We enjoyed viewing the paintings, but would have liked a little of the history or a story explaining how and why each was made.
