After retiring, my mom began to work from home as a medical transcriptionist and has for the last five years or so. She still wanted to work, but also wanted a flexible schedule. Two years ago, I lost my job and have been looking for a new one with little luck. I started looking into to work-at-home opportunities. The idea of saving money on gas and avoiding traffic fast food lunches sounded like a brilliant idea. I am looking at the option of becoming a transcriptionist and I like how the author laid out the book, as she speaks of her own experience of starting out and staying positive and being persistent. She maps out everything you need to know to get started, including required skills, equipment you will need, pay rates, and a plethora of tips and tricks that will help you get started. I have found that there are a lot of transcription job opportunities out there, and many of them you do not need a certificate or degree, just impeccable time management, listening and typing skills. This book will give you step-by-step instructions on how to get transcription jobs, where to get them, creating your resume and so much more. Great book at a great price!
After reading tons of books about work from home transcription that had useless or outdated information, I was very skeptical about reading this one. I was pleasantly surprised after the first chapter. I did not feel like the author was trying to just sell a book. Ms. Mills not only provided information based on her experience, but also important must do's and don’ts for anyone looking to start a transcription career. Her list of transcription company resources would have been worth the price of this book a lone, but it just so happens that I was able to read a copy of this book through 's Kindle Unlimited and it definitely worth the $9.99 fee just by itself. After thoroughly reading this book, I applied for 4 transcription companies and I am currently in the following stages: 1) testing waiting list, 2) transcription test, 3) contract employment phase, 4) and application and testing returned. This to me is proof that this book was valuable.
All I can say is wow! This ebook was so well written and easy to follow! It was beyond helpful. I now don't feel so intimidated to try General Transcription. I am starting at the very beginning with absolutly no transcription experience so this purchase was definetly worth the money. Thank you!
Completely ignore that review by "speaking from experience" as she did not even read this book and rated it one star. This is an excellent resource for people just starting out and the author provide a lot of great information and advice. I follow her blog regularly and was happy to see her new book. I recommend this for anyone who is just starting out or even those already doing this because there is a lot of useful info. Its well written and easy to read and follow as well.
I have done a small amount of transcription work helping out a friend with her overload. The work I did was enough to cause me to realize I could really enjoy this line of work. Can work from the comfort of home and earn some supplemental income which is all I really need. My friend could not really advise me on getting additional work as she has never worked for a firm; just individuals. I began researching this field and discovered Lisa's book. I cannot say enough good about this book; it is full of practical tips, e.g., how to build a dictionary which will help with typing speed to supplying a list of potential firms who employ general transcriptionists. She tells it like it is - describes the type of individual who can succeed in this line of work as well as what equipment is needed to start out. She has anticipated questions a beginner might have about this business and addresses them in her book. Excellent!
Purchasing Ms. Mills' book was the very best thing I did when contemplating starting a freelance transcription business. I had no idea how to start and her book answered ALL my questions and much more. Not only does she cover all possible questions that someone may have, but she also includes a website address for a transcription forum where you will find an abundance of related information. She even promptly answered a personal email I sent her. You can't go wrong with purchasing this book if your goal is to start your own freelance transcription career. Personally, I feel Ms. Mills' book is under-priced. In my opinion, it is well worth three times what it is currently selling for.
This ebook is not very long, but the information is solid and there are lots of included resources. Any person new to this field should find enough information here to get them started! I appreciate the author taking the time to share this with the rest of us :)
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in starting a general transcription career. Pretty much no question goes unanswered -- Lisa talks about how the process works, what equipment you need as well as recommendations for places to find the equipment, what a fair rate of pay is for general transcription, where to find work, and even resume tips for landing the jobs you apply for. I also really appreciate the fact she gets straight to the point -- no fluff -- and explains everything in a way that a beginner can understand.
