The book does a good job explaining the interview process from both points of view. I wish I had read this before my last interview. I ended up not getting the position, but got on the team later for a second position. I later asked about my interview and they said they were not impressed with how I handled it, but they have been impressed with my work. I wish I could have done a better job showing my strengths and this book would have helped! It also made me realize I am currently in a very good position career wise.
Ace the Software Engineering Interview is more than tackling your next interview, it's a framework for landing the job you truly love. A significant part of the book is determining whether a company is the one you actually want to work for.I especially liked the chapter about questions to ask an interviewer. "What is your testing strategy?" and "Do you have any engineers in your organization that are widely known in the industry?" These two questions can help gauge the reliability of the software, and if the company attracts talent.What I loved about this book is it forced me to evaluate myself as a developer. I looked at myself through the lense of an interviewer and thought, would I hire this person? I am a self taught programmer with no formal education, so it has been critical that I can convey my skills, motivation, and passion for my work. This book provides the perfect framework for that.
I am not a software engineer and I love this book. I am a social media/digital/web strategist and found this book very interesting. This book goes into great detail on how well you fit with the organization, but better yet, how well the organization fits your needs. I see it far to often someone will take a new position with a company that is just not a good fit for them. FAIL. Also, love the questions to ask, and questions asked of you to be prepared for. This book will give you the confidence to not only NAIL your next interview, but also leave you feeling great about accepting an offer knowing you made the right decision. Well written Ryan!
I personally like the book and would recommend it to friends, but as an employer I would actually rather candidates did not take advantage of this book before an interview😀
