Difficult to read. Full of information, granted, but if you genuinely want your readers to learn, the material should be presented in a more carefully explained manner. In contrast to most textbooks, it has long chunks of dense text without much organization, many visuals, or emphasis of important ideas. The questions at the end of each chapter are not much help for checking one's understanding as the answers are not provided nor is there a solution manual available for purchase. Finally, as someone with a chemistry background, I found that several concepts were poorly explained and some flawed, even.
This book is the standard text when it comes to soil chemistry, and with good reason. Dr. Sposito was a pioneer in the field and an renowned expert. The book is full with everything you need to know. However, Dr. Sposito seems to have taken the stereotype of scientists writing densely as a how-to instruction. Reading the book is a slog. You'll come knowing what you need to know, and probably more, but I can't promise you a particularly enjoyable ride.
Professor Sposito's book on soil chemisty is easy to read for anyone with a background understanding of inorganic chemistry. Great reference for environmental engineers.
It is a very well written book. Although it brings traditional topics in soil chemistry, this book covers deep discussions on each of the subjects in an easy to go through. The suggested reading and the problem set sections provide useful assistance to those who seek for further details on related topics and the advantages of hands-on, respectively. It is an essential book for either beginners or upper class students in soil chemistry, agronomy and environmental sciences.
Excellent product. It is exactly what I was expecting
Great soil chemistry book.
