Although I have lived and traveled in Idaho for more than 30 years, Kirk Anderson's book "Idaho Discovered" has revealed a vision of Idaho that I had not perceived. The images range from hauntingly beautiful to light hearted and whimsical; from hundred mile vistas to dew drops on a single leaf, but always with an intensity, quality, and clarity that sets this book apart from standard issue photo books. The images all seem to be on the verge of coming to life due to Mr. Andersons unique method of capturing wind, water, sky, snow, and even fire on film.If you love Idaho, dream of coming here one day, or simply want to take an extraordinary armchair journey from one end on Idaho to the other, then this book is for you.Highly recommended!
As a native Idahoan, this is the first book I have ever found that truly represents the entire state. Idaho is a very diverse landscape and a huge area to cover by any means of transportation. Kirk Anderson's commitment to intimately discover and share his Idaho journey is a gift to all who know or wish to know this beautiful state. The photography proves to be of the highest caliber. Great !
I truly "discovered" Idaho in this book. Having spent several years of my high school days in Northern Idaho, I didn't ever dream that such beauty surrounded me. I have since traveled over alot of the state, country and some foreign countries, and have been astounded at the scenery which had been practically in my back yard. There were landscapes that were breathtaking and Anderson's ability to capture the most minute detail of each one was magnificant. Of course, skiing, hiking and biking to some of these locations was an added bonus that most people don't have the opportunity to experience. I discovered this book on [the photographer's] website...
Idaho is a state of geological extremes that range from a desert moonscape to towering mountain peaks, to urban city landscapes. Photographer Kirk Anderson fully and vividly documents the diversity and beauty of this diverse and sometimes surprising state through a spectrum of color photography that presents memorable (and often artistic) portraits in its celebration. Idaho Discovered is a volume of spectacular, informative, entertaining, and highly recommended images that work wonderfully well to showcase the diverse landscapes. The accompanying texts by Frank Rowland and Clarence Stilwill are excellent frameworks supporting a truly remarkable photographic compendium.
Idaho Discovered is a beautifully executed coffee table book with an affordable price tag. It showcases the work of one of Idaho's most talented photographers. Kirk Anderson has explored all areas of this awesome state from the forests and lakes of the North, to the wheat fields of the center, to the austerely beautiful high deserts of the South. He avoids the trite image, seeking out the unusual or waiting for unique light or atmospheric effects to transform a scene. The color reproductions are of very high quality and have a natural look.
I love the photos in this book. A person can tell the photographer spent a lot of early sunrises and late sunsets for the special moment. I grew up in Idaho and have seen a lot of the areas he took photos of, so it is special to me in that way. This book will be a family heirloom as my Dad was the smaller of the two ice fishermen. He and a friend were doing what they loved when a guy came out on the ice and asked if he could take their picture. The rest is history.
Idaho Discovered does an incredible job of capturing the beauty of Idaho in pictures. The pictures are breathtaking and the quality of the book is outstanding. I would highly recommend this book!
What a beautiful book! I'm sure that every state would love to have such a stunning pictorial review. Anderson is a master.
