Being a serger user for 28 years, I never thought I would ever need this book. When we were moving, my husband packed up my serger and pulled all the thread out. I knew never to unthread my machine, but didn't pass on the message. Lesson learned. I couldn't use my serger for years until I found the manual online.Threading has never been an issue for me. Complicated and tedious -- yes! But, once it's done, unless you break a thread (which I've never done), you just clip the old thread at the top, tie it to the new color and run it through. From this book, I learned there was a sequence to threading and one looper out of order makes a difference. The book laid it out in sequence.When I added a 5 thread computerized serger to my sewing room recently, I immediately had issued threading it and making it stitch right. It baffled my why stitches weren't right. With this book, I realized that the girl who owned my serger previously didn't have the right needles in the machine and the auto tension just fibs a bunch. I can now get half the of stitches to stitch out right and will mess with rethreading the rest as I have time.In the book, the author mentioned buying a $3000 serger isn't going to make it stitch any better. He said to make sure that a low end (known brand) won't do the same thing and save you money.I learned more from this book in the couple of hours that it took me to read it, than I've learned in all my years of using a serger. The pictures really help me understand things too. I never quite understood how a stitch was made by my serger and I do now. Some people won't care, but it impressed me to realize what my machine was doing.The section about industrial sergers didn't do much for me.
