This book has a lot of very informative stuff in it. However, this book is in its 4th edition and still has an overwhelming number of grammar, spelling, and formatting errors that make it very difficult to read. I gave up on trying to keep track of them all. Also, this book is very dry. There is very little to keep the interest of the average person. With all that said, I do think it's a useful book for school counseling professionals and students. However, I don't think the author is doing his readers justice by selling a book for over $200 without hiring a professional (good) editor to look over it first. If he has someone professionally proofreading for him, he should fire them and get someone else (Or they could just actually do their job).Small, but significant other problems I see are:Index: The index is poorly constructed. There is a lot more cross-referencing needed, and many key concepts aren't indexed at all."Cultural Reflection" Questions: The questions throughout the book are often poorly worded or poorly thought-out. It often seems like the author just writes a question because he has to write a question. Here's an example from page 12: "Given the historical overview so far [Broad], how might students, parents, and educators from diverse cultural backgrounds view the school counseling profession's track record on achievement, access, and opportunity for all students? What cultural barriers and access points might exist?"Firstly, this question does not make sense. If one does dig through to understanding what the author might be hinting at, it is daunting. This is the first such reflection in the book and the author wants the reader to reflect on how different cultures might view the history of school counseling.
