Bought as a requirement for a master's level counseling course. Surely there has to be a textbook that focuses on Career Development that is more engaging than this one! I found this text to be unbearably dry and unstructured. If you are looking for a text to present career development theories in a clear and concise manner, look elsewhere. This text is a whole lot of fluff and very little informative content! In the running for worst textbook ever!
Here is the problem. I am a graduate student in a Master's Counseling program. This is the first eText I have purchased. It still cost a lot. The publisher only allows it to be viewed on two devices - neither of those being my smartphone. I was planning on accessing this text on my tablet, and at times on my laptop, but my phone is always with me and those of you who have been in school (does that leave anyone out?) know you read every time you get a chance to keep caught up. I now have to lug a tablet with me everywhere I go. A tablet that doesn't have USB charging capabilities. So that puts a real crimp in my reading times. This is not okay for approximately $95.00 for a book that I can't even resell now. This item needs at least 6 licenses and the ability to be read on a smartphone. I will rethink purchasing kindle textbooks for now. I know that is the road we are headed down, but Mr. Publisher, if you can't pave it with something better than dirt or cobblestones this is not a road I'm interested in taking. If you can pave in a more modern fashion, I will become interested in over paying you for Kindle textbooks again.
Small writing, very wordy in an unnecessary manner. Not at all interesting or inspiring...Reading this book would convince me not to go into the Career Development Field if it was my only experience with the field. Getting a Global Career Development Facilitator certification and training from the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) would be better.
I have no doubt the two authors are talented in their field however, their writing in this text did not seem to reflect these talents. This book did not inspire a desire to learn more or enter into the field of career counseling. Expensive as well.
Pretty standard textbook....boring. Career counseling isn't exactly my thing as a clinician but I bought this book for school. I would imagine that if you are into career counseling you would enjoy this book much more than I did.
I found this book to be extremely difficult and uninspiring, as I am someone who likes efficient information that I can relate to and apply. I truly like to learn new concepts and historical background information but found the information was placed in a way that made reading each chapter a chore, much like reading a technical manual. This is one for the bookshelf at best.
This textbook was extremely boring and actually discouraged my initial interest in career counseling. It read like one continuous story with very few headings and bullet points, and lacked clear emphasis on important points. What could have been an interesting subject came across as dry and boring. I am so glad I rented this instead of buying it!
I can not seem to enlarge the text in the kindle format of this book, which makes it very tiring to read on the eyes. Updates for this book must include formats with bigger text. This is making me rethink using my Kindle and purchasing ebooks for my time in grad school.
