The Maher Course Of Ventriloquism has contributed to the development of more ventriloquists than one could ever imagine. Started by Fred and Madeline Maher in 1934, the Maher School Of Ventriloquism was purchased by Clinton and Adelia Detweiler in 1969. For over 30 years, they were the driving force behind Maher Studios.In 2002, Clinton updated the Maher course to create the New Millennium Edition. Because of the cost to produce the course, there were only a few remaining sets when Clinton passed away in January 2013. The Maher Course almost went with him.The Detweiler family passed the torch to Mark and Jody Wade at the 2013 Vent Haven Ventriloquist Convention. Mark's goal was to revive the Maher Course and make certain it would be available for future generations. Working with Ken Groves and Tom Crowl, they began to revise the lessons to again become the gold standard of ventriloquism courses.During this process, they discussed changes that would incorporate modern technology. I have the hard copy version of this that I purchased about 5-6 years ago. This is one of the best instructional courses I have ever purchased on any topic, and it's great for ventriloquism. Each lesson is short, easy to understand, and very practical. It breaks down the process of learning ventriloquism into very easy steps. You have to be willing to practice, and put the time in to learn the skills, but there is no better course than this. It's very comprehensive too. Now that it's been revised by three very experienced ventriloquists, it's even more valuable. I'm really looking forward to going through this again with the new revisions. Having it on Kindle makes it even easier to use.
I learned the art of ventriloquism by using this course developed by Clinton Detweiler. It covers EVERY aspect of the art. Contrary to popular belief Ventriloquism is not something that is in your genes, it is learned. The maher course is the map that will help you reach the destination of VENTRILOQUIST ISLAND with PRACTICE. It is assembled with 30 individual booklets that are the solid stepping stones that support you during the entire journey. It truly is a treasure that can be passed from generation to generation.
This lesson gives an introduction to ventriloquism, how your voice creates various sounds and a little physiology of your body and how it produces various sounds you make. It is only the first lesson from a many lesson course so you won't learn how to "throw your voice" but it will help you get started.
I learned ventriloquism from the Maher Course when I was in high school - over forty years ago. It was a great course then, and it's held up remarkably well over the years. I still have my original course, which was produced on a mimeograph machine, on 8 1/2 x 11 paper, and is about three inches thick. It's nice to have it available in the Kindle format. If you're serious about learning vent, get this!
If you want one of the best detailed courses in ventriloquism the Maher Course is the one to get. I got this when it was still available in paper and it is very detailed and covers many aspects of the art. Other than Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism, I don't think any other course has helped so many ventriloquists learn and study the art. Fantastic that it's now available in digital form.
I took the course around 1973 and still cherish my tattered old copy. I can let it rest now by having this version. Almost every major ventriloquist working today (including myself) started with this course! It is great.
It's great that the Maher Course is being improved and made available in this new form. Many performers have learned the art from it, and this classic will always be a good reference for aspiring as well as experienced ventriloquists. This does not just quickly gloss over topics, but gives you the real work on how to do it. If you want to learn and are willing to do the work, you can succeed.
This is one of the most definitive and highly recommended courses in ventriloquism with proven results for ventriloquist all over the world including many well known celebrities. It's fantastic that at last it's now available in electronic format because even when you've completed the entire course you'll want to keep it handy for quick reference. If you're serious about becoming a professional ventriloquist then you need this course.
