Versa-bed: From One Sheet Of Plywood Download Free (EPUB, PDF)
Use one sheet of standard (4ft x 8ft) plywood to make a sofa bed. Assembly all parts, including arm supports without the use of any hardware, yet your sofa bed is still convertible, sturdy, and easy disassembled into flat package for transportation and weights only as much as one plywood sheet. Quality of the versa-bed depends on material grade and thickness used for construction. Veneer edging and finish of the end product depends on individual taste, skills and/or need of the person building the versa-bed. Information on hand tools and specification of material (plywood) is provided. Detailed instructions how to plan, mark, and cut individual parts from plywood sheet are included in the form of cut sheets on which dimensions are given only to cuts related with the related process. Detailed instructions follow each part drawing measurements. Author had conceived, designed, made, and used the model of versa-bed in four different homes he lived temporarily before he finally settled down. The original versa-bed with foam mattress from Ikea is tacked in the closet and serves as a spare bed when necessary and is getting accolades from consecutive users. Dimensions of the final product, here restricted to the size of a standard sheet of plywood (4ftx8ft), may be extrapolated on larger parts by using more material i.e. to build higher and deeper sideboards. Versa-bed construction may be an alternative for futon base frame, or could be equipped with foam mattress like those available in Ikea stores.
