This is the history of the three so-called "navigation wars" between the English and the Dutch. These first of these wars dates from 1652 until 1654; the second from 1665 until 1667 and the third from 1672 until 1674. It is sometimes alleged that there is a "fourth navigation war" between 1780 until 1784. However, this war is generally seen as being tangentially related to the American Revolutionary War.
Not much is generally available on this crucial series of wars that, in effect, was a contributing factor in the creation of the British Empire. Although a bit "slow" in places, this book is perhaps the best work out there on the subject. My opinion only!
