The people that made this book are the worst. They have had 5 editions in the past 10 years. Why? To make money. That way they can constantly charge a higher price without changing the material. Statistics has not changed enough in the past 10 years to warrant 5 new additions. What these authors are doing is taking all of their sample questions and changing them. They change the numbers in the problems, change the question numbers, but all the material in the book stays the same. Good luck just buying an older edition. If your professor is like mine, the problem sets correlate to the question numbers in the book. And that makes doing them without the latest edition a big issue. The only thing I can see that is different book to book is things about computer statistics programs. Still, much of this has to do with greedy authors.
This book needs a glossary and a comprehensive index. Overall, this book is poorly organized and provides a confusing and hard to follow introduction to the basics of statistics. By the eighth edition, I would think they'd have resolved basic problems like this.
Book was not only costly, but shipped very slow and came with NO ACCESS CODE that was guaranteed. I am not able to do my assignments now that I have put off waiting for the book with it's access. The book itself is very difficult to understand and requires you to read over it all several times. It's poorly written with little examples and explanation that you're forced to look online to better help yourself to understand which is annoying.
This book was better than the incompetent teaching abilities of my professor. If I learned anything in my stats course it was with this book. Don't get the loose leaf, I really regretted it once I started traveling around with the book.
I had to purchase the online course through LaunchPad and I thought I would use the book as a reference. NO!!!! This book is so difficult to follow and choppy. If you have to purchase the online course, you will get access to the online book. If you feel the need to have a hard copy of the book--PRINT THE BOOK OFF FROM YOUR ONLINE CLASS!!!! This book is literally the same print offs! Don't waste your money! Hopefully if you don't take heed to my warning, that you will at the very best rent the book so you can return it (luckily that's what I did!). Either way, this is a horribly difficult book to read and follow along with.
All you need to know about data and survey analysis. This book is enriched with a variety of problems and examples which establish a sturdy understanding to a lot of statistical concepts and terminologies.Good for researchers and statisticians..
Most of my complaints are with the printing itself and not the book. The book is nothing special, though I would have liked to see more insight into scaling these statistical methods to hundreds of thousands of samples (more relevance to modern machine learning practices). However, I am very disappointed in the printing quality. For almost 200 bucks I would expect a book that doesn't tear as easily as this one. Also, you still have to pay another $100 to get the launchpad license. All in all, waste of money.
NOT PAPERBACK!!!!!! Advertised as paperback, however it comes as loose leaf sheets. Be ware!
