I was taking my first hematology/oncology class as part of my medical school curriculum when I bought this book. I have a decent background in cancer as I've taken a "Tumor Biology" course previously and also worked in a cancer research lab for a year, but I have zero background in hematology.I found this book to be way too choppy and really lacking in the sort of detail I needed to understand the material. I could see how this could potentially be useful for someone who has already studied everything in depth previously (although I think there are likely better options), but this book is no good for someone just learning a new subject. I preferred the Robbins book (Basic Pathology, although "big robbins" is good too) instead of this. Robbins is just written better and more thoughtfully presented.
I am probably not the target audience, but I am newly diagnosed with leukemia, and I wanted to understand. This gave me a concise but wide-ranging view of the disease. It has all of the concepts that I need so far. I found a copy at my library and liked it so well that I purchased my own.
I purchased this for a medical student. He said that Essential Haematology by Victor Hoffbrand makes studying haematology easy and straight-forward.
This book was recommended as the main text in medical school for the hematology course we did. It's a fairly small but relatively thick book and pretty easy to understand. Colorful tables, diagrams and pictures and the information is well put together throughout, giving diagnosis, supportive care, clinical features, and management clearly explained. I also liked the interactive version of the text given with the 6 th edition which allows you to download the material so u can use it on the go; iPad or computer.
Doing haematology in a hospital and this book provides me with foundational knowledge of the subject. Love the online access as well!
Bought for medical school Hematology course. I love reading textbook, but I found this to be difficult to connect with my course material. I'll revisit it before Step 1 to see if it may be more useful for review.
This item met my expectation very good condition. Thank you
Great Hematology book! Would recommend to others.
