I've been trading for about 7-8 years now, first as a swing trader and now primarily a day trader. I have a pretty good thing going but I'm always studying, always trying to learn something new to give me an edge. I've read a ton of books on trading and investing--I have a lot of the big name books that have hundreds of reviews and lead the pack in sales. All I have to say is thank God for the digital age and the ability to self publish, because this gem of a book would not exist if Harvey Walsh had to first go out and get a book deal with a major publishing house. At this point in my trading career, if I learn a couple of new tricks or concepts from a book I'm happy. I'm totally happy with my purchase of this book. The vast majority of trading and investing books out there are preparatory--they tell you the things you need to know and have and be before you trade. They go through risk management, indicators, trading psychology, all the things you'll need to know before you start trading. All of these are critical to a trader's success, but nearly all of them drop you off and say goodbye at the point where you're sitting at your PC, logged into your broker's trading platform, trying to put it all together and actually made a trade. Harvey's book picks up where those books leave off. It astounds me that there aren't more books like this out there. Well, no, I guess it doesn't--most people with the knowledge and ability to actually pull off a day trade either have a pamphlet sized book that they're selling for $89.99, or they have their own websites and "systems" and chat rooms, through which they're willing to impart their knowledge for a scant $400 a month. Harvey has done beginning to intermediate level traders a huge service with this book. This is a sick bargain.
I loved this book so much I felt I must write a review on it. First of all, for anyone interested in day trading/technical analysis this is the best book on the market. This book guides you through the entire process in clear, non-verbose, easy-to-understand dialect which makes it a quick read and an even quicker learning curve. This book is not simply an explanation of charts, or patterns, or what market is which but, a full-blown guide to go from square one to beginner/intermediate day trader. It walks you through every step of the process and lays out a clear strategy and principles to follow. You will succeed as a day trader if you take this book seriously.I also just want to say some additional things about day trading in general for anybody who is unsure if this book will help them or if day trading is a legitimate investment strategy. To be clear, day trading is not investing. day trading can be more likened to a personal business which can be either part-time or full-time or just a hobby you do on the side. With that being said, day trading (while not a relatively new idea) is coming into a whole new light with the advent of modern computers and real-time data analysis. You won't see any Forbes articles praising day trading because Wall Street lives mostly in the fundamental world. Every single day more and more financial institutions are realizing the benefits of technical and quantitative analysis, and if the big boy firms are doing it, then you can bet there's a way for small personal investors to take advantage as well (but that wouldn't put money in the big boy firms pockets would it?). Day trading is like poker, it is not about getting rich, or playing for the rush.
