Probably the best "non-textbook" book on options available; extremely informative, useful and a must-have for any serious options trader (from speculators to portfolio managers).Not for the faint-of-heart, as the material can get quite technical. But options aren't for the faint-of-heart. Highly recommended.
I have been studying the markets for the past 10 years with varying amounts of success. Options have always been a part of my strategies, but buying and selling without the knowledge in this book can be detrimental to your trading account. This book goes into the mind of a real Options Trader and the math that goes into making sound option strategy decisions.I also want to share that the Optionsplay.com site that goes along with this book will help you visualize what strategies are good and which are not so good. If you check your reasoning against Optionplay.com, you will be a better trader.Three take-aways from this book.1. This is a great book for anyone wanting knowledge about options and their characteristics. There is some Math in the book that is used to explain the BSM option pricing model. One would be wise to locate standard deviation tables and take a quick refresher from Statistics 101. The book is written by some very intelligent people with a vast vocabulary, so it may be a good idea to have dictionary handy. At any rate, a must read for beginning and intermediate option's traders.
Professional traders will find this to be a valuable resource. Others will find the books written by the Najarian brothers to be more helpful. I enjoy and treasure Michael Khouw's advice on television. Jack Kushner
This reads far more advanced textbook than basic how to guide. The reviews all seem dubious based that they all mention how quickly they learned options - trust me, this isn't an easy read
Not for beginners or amateurs. Quite a few typos and misspellings.
When I was studying to earn my MBA, I took a class on portfolio theory and investment principles. Being the first class in a series on investments, it covered the basics of portfolio and risk management. The second class I took covered securities analysis where we learned how to value stocks and bonds. We also covered options but not very deeply. While I learned the basics of options, the class was not designed to cover the complexities. After reading this book, I understand options much better now and I can even explain them to other people.
This is not a book for novices. It immediately goes into complicated mathematical models that require differential calculus to understand the discussion. This comes from a student with a MS in Mathematics. To be honest, it was one of the worst investment books I've purchased in all my years of investments in the stock market. Add to it that it's over priced.... it's a real let down. I don't recommend its purchase.
