This book is well organized with excellent diagrams BUT I was very disappointed to find 2 mistakes in the Visual pathway lesions diagram on, you can correct it though. its on page 223 Figure 16.2. number 3 (Bitemporal Hemianopia) and 4 (Right Hemianopia) have there corresponding visual field diagram as number 2 (Binasal Hemianaopia). The strange/funny thing about this is that the Diagram is correct in the 2008 HY neuroanatomy which is even cheaper! you can even check for the authors name to see the bigger surprise!A mistake in a book is not a problem. the problem is that the author of any review book specially for an exam like the USMLE should make the student / reader confident about the validity of the information in the book.I kindly request from those responsible for the book contents to make an errata as soon as possible. Just like the First Aid team did.I wanna feel confident when I read BRS neuroanatomy. and be please or the value I get.
Made the mistake of attempting to use this as a primary resource to review class material. This requires a solid basic understanding of neuro to use. The questions were great review for class materials before exams. I anticipate this will be useful for USMLE Step 1 review, just not as useful DURING a first pass at neuroanatomy.
I neglected this book during my neuroscience class in favor of another title, but I just realized how much better this book is. The new edition is lightyears ahead of the prior and has a boat load of questions. Of the other "review" style books, this is my favorite for explanations and great illustrations.
Was hesitant to spend a bit more for the latest book. But when I compare it to the other edn I have, it's clear there's been an update to this BRS.Great book.Got it on time.Got it NEW.10/10!Happy Holidays!
Pages are very dense compared to other BRS books. Neuro is a dense subject, but this format did not work for me when trying to learn the material with no background. My least favorite out of the series. FA and lectures got be through neuro in med school.
Again for those who are writing for step 1, not essential especially if you have a good foundation in neuroanatomy already. In itself, it wouldn't be sufficient for studying neuro for the first time, but I found it useful for organizing notes, annotations, and reviewing.
BRS neuroanatomy is a solid, quick review book. For the purposes of step 1 study it has a bit too much detail, but is a quick read. The figures and tables do an excellent job of condensing information. The questions however are extremely simple and serve only as tools to test memory and not understanding.
I agree with an above reviewer. Good for review (after being taught the subject) but not a good primary source to teach yourself neuroscience. You might as well be watching paint dry...
