Fodor has been doing a guide like this for a long time, and it's a well refined product. The coverage is exhaustive but, more than anything, the balance of content between details about the cruise lines, points of embarkation and ports of call is just about perfect. There's no one area that gets deep, detailed coverage, and that type of content is really not appropriate for a cruise anyway. This book is written with the knowledge that your time spent at any given location is going to be relatively short, so it covers the highlights only. But what a wide swath of the world it includes! Everywhere from Galveston, Texas to Bermuda, all the way down to Cartagena and up to New York. It's all got a place in this book. Then there's the coverage of the cruise ships themselves. This book will really help you select a cruise that is to your taste and budget. There's enormous variety. Keep in mind that this book is really about cruising, so there is a lot of practical information about how to select and plan a cruise. If glossy color content is what you're looking for, this is NOT your book. We've found that on our two cruises with Disney this guide was spot on, and that shows a real working knowledge of the region and its cruise operators. This is not simply a compilation of material available on the Internet.
This is definitely geared more for a first time cruiser. I wanted more in depth information about the ports of call and they're pretty brief. It's very informative but just not what I thought it would be.
I purchased this for our upcoming cruise to the Caribbean. The book is very well organized. The first part gives you really good information about each cruise line and the differences, the atmosphere, etc. The second part gives you detailed information about each embarkation port and the third part tells you just about everything concerning all the ports that are in the Caribbean. While some of the "things to see" do not line up with popularity on Trip Advisor, the information it gives you about each port is very valuable. I do wish they would have included more detailed maps of the actual port cities for each island. But, there is only so much room - and on a cruise line, they make sure you have maps for the ports - especially if they want to funnel you to their jewelry shops - but that is a review for another site :))
Such a quality product and is so up to date and filled with very useful information.Fodor has done an exceptional job. Thank you
Great book for someone going on a cruise. Lots of ideas and tips.
