At the huge Book Expo America trade show in New York in May I stopped by the booth for Sellers Publishing – the publisher of this book - their display of “age specific” titles caught my eye. This was one of the series which relates to decade or half-decade birthdays. Each has its own focus with short essays from folks you’ve heard of, and many you haven’t. Because I have friends who are now on social security, as well as those turning 70 this year, I chose two titles to review when I was offered review copies by the publisher. (The other title was “70 Things To Do When You Turn 70l”. You can see my review under that title here on .)This volume (65 things) is 400 pages long. Ironically, the “70 Things to Do” book is just 304 pages long. I guess the publishers assume that the older you get the less time you have to read, since you should be out “doing” the things listed in the book!Unlike the more-generic “70” book, this one concentrates on “Travel”. The 65 “experts” whose essays are here include actor Andrew McCarthy (best known as part of Hollywood’s “brat pack” in the 60s – who is only 51 years old but has a new career as a travel writer), Ed Perkins (who seems to be quoted in every travel article you read in a newspaper) and Andrew Collins, whose specialty is travel for LBGT folks. Most of the others were not previously known to me. Some of the short essay talk about permanently relocating while others talk about unusual places. And some are about the “attitude” of travelling. Don’t come here expecting many “place specific” ideas. And many discuss “world travel” which –if you’ve priced it lately – you know may not fall into the “affordable” category. Most of the essays in THIS book are about “attitude” and doing things to make your life meaningful.
