Current and well written with loads of personal experience blended with current research. The layout is easy to read and find what you are looking for. Plenty of resources within the book as well. I would recommend this to anyone who was considering a backpacking trip, regardless of destination. I was able to read this thanks to the people behind Story Cartel (in exchange for an honest review). I will be purchasing a copy should I decide to take my own backpacking trip.
Marek has written a very detailed, comprehensive guide to backpacking across the world. It is a very comprehensive guide, yet it also reads like a story.This is because his writing style is very personable and he skillfully weaves stories of his own experiences throughout each chapter.This guide is very thorough, covering most every aspect you can think of (and some things you probably didn't think of) that is involved with travelling across the world with just a backpack.Marek starts with planning your trip, discusses packing light, health and safety on your trip as well as culture and etiquette. If you are willing to learn as much as you can about the culture of each country you visit, it will make a huge difference to the your stay there. You will much more likely to be accepted by the locals when you have taken the time to learn about their culture, and that of course will also make your stay more enjoyable.I was offered a copy of this book in return for an honest review and I found it to be an excellent guide that will definitely get you started preparing for your trip. There is also plenty of information to guide you during your journey. You will definitely want to take a copy with you. Don't leave home without it, you will want to consult it often during your trip.
This book was absolutely phenomenal. It helped get me over that hump to decide to go on an amazing adventure. It addresses all the things that the 1st time backpacker may be wondering. (Note: If you've already been travel backpacking before, this may not be that useful as it will cover things you may already know.)Subjects such as safety, lodging, what kind of gear/clothes to pack, how to properly interact in other cultures, etc etc. It breaks down all the basics and essentials so that you're not left wondering anymore. Absolutely worth the purchase.
The only thing that stops me giving a 5th star is that I haven't been on a trip since I read this book. When I next travel, I'm sure its helpful advice will pay off!Marek Bron has written the travel guide he'd like to have had before setting off on his own backpacking adventures. It's written in a friendly, conversational style, so you will feel as if he's sitting down with you to mull over your travel dreams and turn them into real plans.The author inspires with ideas of places to travel, how to make travel a priority and fund it, safety concerns, how to get more out of your trip no matter who you're traveling with or on your own, how to pack light...Hardly a page of this book does not have something useful that will help you get started on your next adventure.Also check out his website at indietraveller.co[...]
I bought this book because I'm about to go to the Philippines work for a few weeks. Most of my trip will be somewhat structured, but I've extended it for a couple of weeks so I can do whatever I decide I want to do. My backpacking experience is pretty much limited to weekend trips with the Boy Scouts and a guided trek in Peru. Even though the time on my own will be relatively brief, it's scary and exciting to consider being totally on my own on the other side of the world. After reading through Marek Bron's blog I thought this book would be a good reference to help me prepare for my trip. I thoroughly enjoyed his writing style and found the information provided throughout the book very useful. I'm sure I will refer to it many times in the weeks to come.
This book is great for people like me that wouldn't know where to start if one wanted to embark in an extensive traveling experience. The book has lots of info about how to choose a destination, tips on how to get there and how to enjoy your trip. The author knows his stuff, thanks to his experiences as a traveler and as a maven of backpacking knowledge. Great read, if you are planning a long backpacking trip, then this book will definitely help you out.

I loved this book. I've hi-lited so many paragraphs, WEB sites and tips. His style of writing is first class. Everything I wanted to know about long trips is covered in this book. He understands rookie travellers and their fears and puts them at ease so effectively. THANK YOU
