I recently bought this book (new) on for a community college class in Digital Photo 101. My instructor ended up deciding that this book is optional for his class. This was not happy news because the book cost around $40 and now I need to sell it back. It is a good enough book for complete beginners. You could read the manual that comes with your camera and get similar information. There is nothing new here. It covers the basics in a superficial but straight forward manner. There are better books available at more reasonable prices.
If you are new to digital photography, this will be a invaluable book. It covers all of the important aspects of the craft in a way that is simple to understand and learn. If you are already fairly knowledgeable about digital photography and just want a few ideas than don't waste your money on this book as this book is designed for the novice, not the semi-expert.
This is a basic guide to digital photography for those who want to learn how to take great photos and take their digital photography to the next level. It was used in a fine arts photography course and covered everything from the basics of the camera through printing and matting your own photos and was easy to follow with photos and illustrations to show examples. As someone who hates to read technical guides, I found the book to be easy to navigate, understandable, and it held my interest. I bought it to have handy for my course and am glad I did. I'll hold on to it as a reference and recommend it to others who are interested in learning how to take their digital photography into a more professional realm!
This is an excellent guide for learning to use a digital slr camera. I would recommend checking for a used copy since the new one is a bit expensive and once you learn how to use the camera you don't really need it anymore. I would recommend this to anyone looking into really learning the manual aspects of photography, but not to somebody who would prefer to shoot using fully automatic features. It's probably worth it for any digital photographer to own a copy of this book, even the older version is good.
I have traveled around the world and took lots a pictures as any tourist would do. I was tired of just taking blah pictures and wanted to take more exciting and professional pictures. I went out and bought a new DSLR Nikon D3100, the beginners model. I had no idea what I was doing. I went out and bought some books and looked at some videos on YouTube but nothing really helped. This book was the total answer. I liked the way it talks about why we take pictures and how to get the best out of you camera. The explanation of the different aspects of the camera and ideas of how to use them are great. This is an amazing book for beginners like me!
This is a very nicely designed and written book that goes over all the fundamentals you need to know to get into Digital Photography. Exposure, lenses, shutter speed, different types of cameras, etc. It's relatively short, but it goes beyond what's in your camera manual and touches on all the important fundamentals.
This book is well worth its weight in gold. Chalk full of information for any level of photographer! So pleased my digital photography professor required us to purchase and use this book! I've already recommended it to family members and friends, wanting to know more about their digital camera. Starts with basics but doesn't talk down to beginners. Makes it interesting, so you learn while being entertained!
My daughter used this book as a text for her freshman comp class and loved it. The essays and articles are based in pop culture references that nearly any student can relate to. She actually enjoyed doing her homework, if you can believe it! Highly recommended.
