I get a new version of this reference book every year. I like having this in my lab coat, because it has several distinct advantages over a pharmacy app. First, its just faster to look things up in this book. I have races with the residents to prove it to them. By the time you get your phone out, get on the wifi (cell service is awful in the hospital) and get the app running, I have all the information.Among the other big advantages, is that it shows the drugs in relation to its class. Patient can't afford that new ARB? Look at the other ones in that section to see if there is one that's cheaper! It also has dosing instructions (with peds instructions!), major side effects, and off label uses which is something the apps never seem to provide. It also has numerous useful tables, such as dermatomes, QTc prolongating meds and the like.As mentioned by another reviewer, the formatting has changed this year. I don't think the print is smaller, but the margins have increased in size or something. It has gained over 100 pages in thickness, which is quite a bit from its normal growth.Overall, its one of my essential books where I always buy the latest edition.
Great reference, but bigger, heavier, also some tables printed so small-they are hard to read. Last years book was better.
same excellent content. HOWEVER, they have made the tables so small it's almost impossible to use. The tables/charts don't fill the page; they could have easily expanded them. I don't need glasses yet but I do with this book. I've gone back to using last year's.
Always love these books. I work in a walk in clinic. This book is invaluable. However , I am very unhappy with the font size of the pediatric out patient meds chart. What a disappointment to spend the extra money on the larger version and important chart msmallPediatric out patient med chart font is way too small! What a disappointment. I may send it back for that reason alone.
I used to use the smaller one. I got this one due to as I get older my sight isn't what it used to be and figured I could see it better. Unfortunately, the size of the font is the same, just more information. I really needed a larger font and have gone back to using my phone and explaining to the paitient's that I'm not surfing, that I use my phone as a portable computer and am looking up information for them.
Excellent reference. I've been using Tarascon since I enrolled in Med School in 1999. In my 'younger years', the compact shirt-pocket edition was fine ... but now that I'm struggling with presbyopia but not yet ready for bifocals, I appreciate the larger print of the Deluxe version - especially for the tables (e.g., opioid conversion charts, STD treatment guidelines). I am a Family Medicine / Hospice and Palliative Care physician in charge of 3 Nurse Practitioners. We all find this book very helpful in day-to-day use.
This book was recommended by my teacher, so I ordered it and I love it. It's excellent for cross referencing and the tables are useful. I read other reviews where the new edition's font size is too small to read, so I bought the lab coat version and am glad I did. I highly recommend this - very useful.
I am a PA student on my clinical rotations. I wish I would have ordered this book sooner. It is such a great resource to have, it gives you dosing and instructions on the medication for various conditions. It's much better than apps!
