I'm loving the camera but it is somewhat confusing and the users manual is virtually useless. My experience with this book is the complete opposite. It explains the basics and the really in depth stuff for more advanced photographers. As a beginner-this is my first camera-I've found this dummies book to be a friendly teacher. If you're in my situation, this book is definitely the way to go.
I'm not a camera "newbie," by any means. I had a Canon EOS (film-based) for years -- since high school. (I graduated in 1989 if that tells you anything...). I recently upgraded to a DSLR after having many point-and-shoot models, and merely wanted something a bit more in-depth than the user manual that came with the camera.I had purchased another Rebel T3 "user guide," and found it to be less than stellar (and it contained an rather major error I just couldn't get past...). Rebel T3/1100D for Dummies is what I should have purchased first! It's not your typical "cheap" black-and-white Dummy book. This is a full-color glossy pages with tons of photographs and examples Dummy book.A great reference, and much better than the manual that comes with the camera. The Canon EOS T3 is an introductory-level DSLR, and this book geared towards the "prosumer" (professional consumer) audience. Highly recommended.
I bought this book hoping it would be somewhat of a "quick-start" reference with which I could look up how to do something on-the-fly. This book is definitely NOT written to be a quick reference; it's meant to be read cover to cover before you use your camera. I would state that one annoying aspect of the book is that the authors repeatedly bring up a topic in an early chapter and then say they will elaborate on the topic in a later chapter. You feel like you're about to delve into learning about one mode but then it quickly jumps to another subject. If you don't mind flipping back and forth, this book is for you. However, I would say that if you've got the time to read most of the book with your camera beside you to explore, it's not a bad starter guide. You are NOT buying this book to learn how to take pictures; you're simply going to learn what all of the buttons and features do.
This book is an enjoyable read. Although a little disjointed, most subjects are covered and can be found with a little looking. It makes a good guide for someone not familiar with the camera. I am glad I bought it.
A new DSLR Canon Rebel camera for my Christmas present this year and couldn't wait to use and understand! I am not very technology savvy, so I ordered this book to help. I figured it would be the best information written simply for me to understand. Although I have not read all of it, it has been helpful so far.
This book is a very good supplement to the manual. It's easy to read, and contains lots of details that I didn't find in the supplied documentation. That's not to say that everything isn't in the manual, but this book is much more accessible. It's been my primary guide for learning how to use my new camera.
It is a useful book. I'm brand new to photography and for me, I guess I assumed it would spend more time on describing the mechanics of photography. It is though, exactly as it is advertised. It explains very well how to use the T3. I just wish it would have been laid out and organized a little better and even a bit more on the "dumbier" side. I felt lost at times as I knew nothing of photography before reading this book. I wish they would have illustrated pictures of how a camera works and detailed explanations of all photographic lingo and abbreviations. Once I was familiarized with the lingo and abbreviations, the book seemed to make more sense and that's when I really began to gain momentum. In a nutshell, If you know the basics of photography this is a great detailed manual for the camera.
I received a Canon EOS Rebel T3/1100D back in December as a Christmas present. I love taking photographs of nature and I absolutely love this camera. There are so many things this camera can do and if you are new to the DSLR community and have this camera, YOU REALLY NEED THIS book. Although the first few chapters are basic knowledge that you can get with the camera instructions, it does help out later in the book for other settings on the camera.
