Just purchased a Nikon D3300, and had to have a book to learn it by. This is a good book -- discusses "how to" (time lapse photography, macro, settings, compensations) -- all things I need to learn. He respects this camera (nice to know!), and he understands it. He explains things well, and even though the book is 350+ pages, he could have written more. I am still working through things (like using RAW) but in one week of practice, I have picked up quite a bit of knowledge, and am very comfortable with the camera. I recommend this book to DSLR newbies like me or people who did SLR in the film days (which I have done as well). Finally, I understand WHY my shots do what they do. I especially liked the discussion on the histograms, which used to baffle me, but now have become my tutor.
This is the largest book I could find, content wise, on specific Nikon D3300 information. This book is not only generic digital SLR camera information, it's specifically geared towards making the D3300 shine.
Great book that deserves quiet time with your camera and this book, plus lots and lots of practice. In other words if you're looking for a quick way to turn yourself into a great photographer with a great camera, look somewhere else, the only way is practice practice practice. This book will help you get there.
Four stars, at least. This book is about my second DSLR. I got a book by a different author when I got my first DSLR, and I didn't like that other book very well. It had a lot of general photo information and not much specific to that camera. This book has a LOT more information specific to the D3300.The best thing about the book is that it not only explains what different settings do (as the user's manual does), it is very good at helping me decide which settings I SHOULD use, like should I use active-D lighting or not? Which autofocus mode should I use? Which metering mode should I use, etc.It obviously uses a lot of cut-and-paste from his other books, but it is pretty good about the D3300 specifics. I have noticed some errors that don't apply to the D3300, though.
If David D. Busch is the author, that book usually, if not always, deserves five stars. This one falls right in line. Here's everything you need to know about Nikon's newest entry-level prosumer dslr, almost none of which is provided in Nikon's sparse owner's manual. Even if you already have David's guide for one of the two previous models (D3100, D3200), buy this book. There are more than enough improvements in the D3300 to make it worth the expense. David covers all the basics to get you up and running, then moves on to more advanced information. You'll find yourself referring back this well organized guide often so keep it handy.
Thank you Mr. Busch for the wonderful details you provided in your book. It showed me everything I needed know about my Nikon D3300. Even found some of the answer I had regarding photo stacking in Photoshop that I could not find online. If you need a book that can provide you with all the information you need about this camera and some information about Photoshopping images, this is the book you need to read.
Outstanding book. I have been a serious amateur photographer for many years and have a very good understanding of all the basics of using camera settings. But there is always something to learn and I learned a lot from this book. Well laid out; easy to understand; great illustrations; written in plain English; and worth every penny.
I'll begin by saying that this D3300 is my entry into Digital photography and I couldn't have made a better choice. I then did what every student of a new hobby should consider doing, I bought three books about how to get the best result from my purchase....THIS one is Fabulous. Many thanks to author David Busch for doing the homework that I now don't have to do. Very well done.
