Consider Your Options is a concise, clear introduction to various forms of equity compensation. I've recommended the book to several colleagues this year, both as a tool to help with planning stock option exercise strategies for both incentive stock options and non-qualified stock options, and also as a good reference material for understanding job offers received in any industry where RSUs, restricted stock, or stock options are offered as part of the package. It's a must have book for people who are likely to receive, or who have received, equity compensation of any type. Highly recommended!
Well written and the author truly knows his stuff. He gave a better explanation of the Alternative Minimum Tax in just a few pages than another author gave in a whole book (which was badly written and full of errors). I recommend this book for any tax professional's library.
Excellent book--nicely written in clear and concise language, on a very complex subject. The book is detailed, covering lots of ground, and is thus one of the best references I have seen on the subject. Well worth the money.
This book is a VERY good read for anyone interested in stock Options, restricted stock, ESPP, RSU's, etc. Everything is explained in plain English without going so deep into the subject matter that you get hopelessly lost. However, there is something for everybody as so many items are explained so well that even if you are already familiar with the subject matter (as I already was) you will still pick up so much information that you did not know. This book is required reading for some college classes (as is the case for me), and rightly so. I would explain this book as a beginner to intermediate read in this subject matter, and one of the best books I have read on this subject (I've read about 15 or so books in learning about stock options and employee stock).
I bought this recently but have not had a chance to read it yet. I bought it to "studying up" on stock options because many of our clients have options. I am an enrolled agent (tax specialist) and had a return with an interesting situation concerning employee stock options. Our client was not an employee, however. After wading through IRS publications and still looking for the tax implications for our client, I remembered this book. I quickly found my answer. That book is worth its weight in gold.
Our team uses "Consider Your Options" as our bible in advising Incentive Stock Option Plan participants. It provides ALL the answers in enough detail to impress the CPA crowd, yet is easy to understand for the average participant. We're on our 3rd edition of the book, and will continue to update our copy with each new addition. If you're serious about Incentive Stock Options, this is the book to have.
Material is well written for someone new to options, but takes you as deep as you want to go into the complex possibilities of tax impact. If you have options, even if you have an advisor, this book is a great way to learn the basics and make sure you are getting the good advice.
I'm a tax preparer and needed some help understanding options and being able to explain them to clients. This is a GREAT reference.
