I bought this textbook for an Intro to Child Development online and I have found it highly useful. Since I'm in an online course the majority of the instruction comes from this book, and I find it to be thorough. I am planning on becoming a teacher, so I am going to keep this book to help me understand what stages of development my students are in, as well as to study for the Praxis.
This book was cheaper than the actual paperback and came with the code to use my development lab along with it. The development lab really makes a difference in getting the important information out of the book. It also offers movies to help see the points.
I am student at Marymount University of Arlington, V.A. This textbook was required for the summer class I am currently taking. My school's bookstore had a used rental version of this book for $108.00. I wasn't going to spend that much on something that I would rent and return. Therefore, I looked to to get the same book for a much cheaper price and I did. This book has all sorts of great things about Infants and Child development. If you need this type of book without breaking your wallet, then is the place to get it.
Such a fantastic textbook. I was renting it for class and I was so interested that I would always read things from it to my husband. Eventually he asked me if I could please buy it so we could have it on hand for the day we become parents. I find myself referring to it all the time and it has helped me immeasurably in other classes. This book is well written, easily understandable and actually gripping, things you rarely find in a textbook. This book does a great job of explaining things and illustrating complex concepts. I really can't recommend it enough.
The book came right on time. Actually it arrived waayyy before the estimated delivery date.Excellent condition. I think renting the book is way more cost effective and ideal for students who can't afford to buynew editions of books even if they are used. So renting is the perfect option. I saved a li'l over $60 by renting this bookand not buying even the used copy. This is a huge deal for me.considering how tight financial situations can make a person so limited. And of course it's my responsibility to send it back in the exact same excellent condition, which I will.
I love the book however the quality of the book is very poor. For the amount that I paid for it is not a fair price. The pages tear very easy which is not good when you have to flip backwards and fourth for classroom studies or homework. The a la carte paper should be stronger. I purchase this for flexibility, it needs some improvement.
I liked this book as a student. However, I would seriously consider other ECE textbook options as a teacher, especially if you are teaching from a Christian world view. This book was very helpful for the theories, it helped explain them well and mostly showed an unbiased view on a lot of them.
While this book wasn't the exact one I was looking for, it is incredible! Whether you want to become a teacher or simply want to be a better parent, this book will provide incredible insights into the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of the developing child and allows you, the caretaker, to be better informed in your decision making as you help guide your child through each stage of their early to middle childhood years.
