BEWARE!! I rented this book for a full semester and in the last week of the rental, also my finals week for school, the book stopped working on all my devices. I called and was informed that the Kindle app updated to windows 8 and the book was not compatible with the update and the textbook was not available for the new updated Kindle app. refunded me the full price of the book which was nice but, I was screwed the last week of my semester with no textbook to study for finals. I will definitely think twice before renting another digital textbook anywhere, especially through Kindle.
Got this book for my class, didn't want to pay 200+ to get a book since I will only open it during the summer quarter. And this is my first time to rental a book within . The whole experience is good, easy. When I received the book, there were some little damage, but it doesn't matter, talked to the customer service online to let them know, they just offered me some cash back, I didn't take it since it is not a big deal...But their service are super good and awesome.....The book itself is good, and with interesting examples and good knowledge. If you are interested in some abnormal psych, you should read it .....
I purchased this book at my college bookstore and not on . However, I wanted to warn people against taking a course using this text. It reads like a college lab report written by a lazy student with an inadequate command of the English language Often, I found myself rereading the same sentence because of its confusing structure and vague references. While I can appreciate various citations for statistics, Whitbourne over uses her references. Just about every 3-4 sentence paragraph in the book contains a 2-3 sentence summary from another source haphazardly combined with her own opinion.
I had to purchase this new edition for my Clinical and Abnormal class this fall semester. I understand the need to update this textbook because the updated DSM-5. My gripe is with the shipping: "Usually ships within 1 to 3 weeks." School starts for the CSU system August 26th so I had to purchase 1 day shipping which costs about $20 extra. With the textbook being $142.50 to begin with my total ended up being over $160 with tax...FOR ONE BOOK, FOR ONE CLASS (I'm taking 5 classes this semester so imagine if they all were that amount). Even with the 1 day shipping the estimated delivery is AUGUST 14, 2013 - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2013 BY 8:00PM (I ordered it August 5). So for me it should work out (even if it is delivered on the 28th, I am missing only 2 days with it). But if you need this book for your psych class and haven't ordered it yet, you could be without the textbook for up to 3 weeks and that is just not acceptable. I'm sure the content is well written, easy to understand, and accurate, but the updates better be worth the price. Also just a side note: I had to purchase this new because of the updates and my professor insisted we get the new one, but I almost never purchase new textbooks. It's a rip off and college students have enough expenses to deal with. Please rent your textbooks and save yourself a lot of money.UPDATE AUG 19: I decided to cancel my order and order it from a different site because they notified me it would take longer to deliver than they expected and it would not have arrived on time.
Goes into a good amount of detail about almost everything and gives a good definition for the majority of the words. Not really for people without some sort of psychology knowledge though as some background knowledge is needed for the words they don't define
I like Mcgraw-hill textbooks. They are easy to read and are very interesting. I especially like the case studies at the beginning of each chapter.
Helped me a lot in my psychology class. It is a book that is easy to read, good quality, and great information.
