A terrible, miserable format. Wish i had read more of the reviews myself, only takes you to the nightmare of a cengage site, where the dangle access to your books over your head and watch as you struggle to get work done. There's 100$ down the tubes. I bought the kindle version for quick, easy access. It's worked with books in the past. turns out that this "kindle version" is really just a page on your kindle with a link to the Cengage site, where they take over access. If i had wanted the book from cengage, i would have bought it from them. Likely, i'll end up having to repurchase this somewhere else, in hard copy, because the class i need this for is accelerated, no time for fussing with their site.The most frustrating thing, hands down, is that the entire ebook is dependent on an internet connection. Sure, you can download some of the Ebook as PDF, but you literally have to do it one page at a time. I really don't have time to do that with the nearly 600 page book.Yes, the mouseover definitions for vocab are nice, but they are massively eclipsed by the clunkiness of the website and lack of offline support.what a waste.
This is ONLY a review of Cengage, not the book itself--I will NEVER use Cengage again! I thought I was buying a Kindle version, however it is NOT DOWNLOADABLE. You must have internet access and a Kindle Fire to view it. Reading it on the Cengage website is frustrating because the viewing window only allows you to see a small portion of the page at a time. VERY ANNOYING. Customer support is mixed--they are not all well-informed on how Cengage works and I've been put on hold for long periods of time. In order to get help, they put you through an annoying process of getting a customer service number and making you view FAQ first. I also have found access slow at times. I paid $110 and I wish i had just put the money into purchasing the actual book.
Saved a fortune buying a previous edition of the book (teacher is using 8th edition), and I'm doing fine in the class so far. Most of the information and graphics are the same in this edition. Where there is a gap, can easily find the answers with Google.
I bought the Kindle Version. It's good enough. The tables aren't as big as I'd like them to be, but it's what I would expect from a digital textbook for the most part. Navigation could be better, but it is functional. I view the book on my iPad rather than a kindle, so I can't comment on what it looks like on one.As to the book, it is what it is. The chapters are relatively long for a textbook. It is fairly dry, but it's hardly as bad as some of my Social Work Pearson textbooks. If you need it for your class, you'll want to get it. If you don't, and just have a casual interest, it'd probably be better to check out a non-textbook introduction to human development or developmental Psychology first. Or, order an older edition, since it'd be cheaper.
's textbook rental program is Awesome! They offer low prices and often carry the books I need. Receiving my items is so easy as well as shipping them back after the semester is over is so simple. My textbboks have always been in decent condition. Thank you !!
I had to have this book for my Developmental Psychology class and, while it was required reading, it was probably the most interesting textbook I've ever had my hands on. It was interesting to the point where I actually looked forward to reading my chapter every week. The authors were very good about handling controversial topics with a broad view from all sides and always provided examples of studies to back up any claims they made. It was a great read and a fantastic textbook and class!
Book is in excellent condition. Came on time with no issues. Good service, good pricing. One concern -- the book has a rental label -- I am not sure if it will cause problem if I want to sell this book.
This may be the first textbook I have ever ready cover to cover and loved. I took so much from this text and actually expect to remember it. It was clearly organized and I made an A in Human Development. Will not sell this one back, that is for certain.
