Mark does a good job covering the basics for good lighting using speed lights and on or off camera flash
A good learning tool. CGC
Flip through this book at a store first and see if you even like this guy's style. Very, very few of them look "properly" lit -- most look like there was too much flash or just that the flash was not in the optimal position. Most lighting how-to books (and I have read dozens of them) will have one or two that I don't care for, but this seemed to be almost every single one. Since I didn't like the way his photos turned out, I'm not likely to follow his advice. That said, it did provide the normal information (basics, set up, settings, diagrams) but what's the use if the end result is not something you wish to aspire to?
I had seen the book elsewhere, so I knew what I was getting, but still am very happy with it, now that I can get into it deeper.
