I have other books with more details regarding design features. This book adds a very nice account of each individual ship's service record and description. One notable comment was about the USS San Diego, an otherwise overlooked ship, but which Ewing describes as the ship that always showed up. So this is a nice addition to any navy lover's collection.
This book was given to the family of my uncle upon his passing. It was the perfect tribute to a WW II vet who had served on one of the cruisers. The write ups and the photos make this book one that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
A good rundown on each of the classes of cruiser and the history of the individual members of each class. One thing I feel would have improved the book, would be schematic outlines of the ships and possiby cutaway diagrams. But overall, a useful addition to the collection of anyone with an interest in US wartime cruisers.
Bought this book for my 92 year old brother in law who was on the New Orleans and he loved it.
This book contained what I was looking for. My Dad sereved on the USS Phoenix CL46. I found books that never gave Dads ship any credit for her war record, although this book dosen't list all the details, it sure did give Phoenix (and all other cruisers) credit well deserved. Excellent book!!
