And now, rescued from the newsprint where they moldered unseen for over half a century, we can turn to the cartoons that let us know what happens when Horton hears a heil. --ART SPIEGELMAN, PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING AUTHOR OF MAUS ON DR. SEUSS GOES TO WAR Hailed by Entertainment Weekly as "a provocative history of wartime politics," Dr. Seuss Goes to War, published nearly a decade ago, sold over one hundred thousand copies and introduced readers to the World War II-era political cartoons of Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss. Published to great acclaim, the collection included over two hundred cartoons from Geisel's years working for the New York daily newspaper PM. Now Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War presents a new trove of close to four hundred discoveries from the PM World War II archives, including over one hundred cartoons by Seuss, fifty cartoons by the New Yorker's Saul Steinberg, and works by the leading cartoonists of the time, such as Al Hirschfeld, caricaturist for the New York Times; Polish-born American artist Arthur Szyk; and future New Yorker cartoonists Carl Rose and Mischa Richter. The cartoons and commentary in this handsome volume (to be published in the same format as the original Dr. Seuss Goes to War) cover the five years of the war, illustrating changing attitudes and providing a complex picture of the issues that concerned Americans.

I purchased this for my nephew who is a history fanatic. He was starting the semester with two history classes and I thought this might make a great gift. He had been looking for grandma's copy of Seuss Goes To War, and in the offside chance that he found it, I didn't want redundancy. It is a follow up of sorts and has the POV of several cartoonists of the time. He kept chuckling whilst he read. I will admit that a good many of the cartoons went over my head but he loved them. It arrived quicker than anticipated.

This is a little known side 0f the Seuss and it is worth the buy and the read if you can get a copy. I was very pleased with the used condition of my purchase and fancy I will appreciate it and share it for years to come.

After Dr. Seuss became labled as a children's author, his older readers forgot his satiric appeal and ability to focus on the point. The commentaries about the cartoon process and the history of World War II help history students and those curious about editorial cartoons to connect with propaganda and its effects.

At 71 I have memories of WWII. Even with those memories, the cartoons are lacking some background. Sometimes identifiers should be added. I don't recognize all of the carictures. Certain persons were mostly forgotten in post WWII histories so why they are lampooned is unknown by myself. I suspect that the selection is representive of the period but 60+ years later ....

Bought this as a gift for my brother's girl friend. she loved it! She a history teacher and this was prefect! The price was fantastic for me and my teachers salary too!

Actually, this was a gift purchase for a friend who asked me if I knew where she could purchase one. It made a great gift for somone who is a # 1 fan of Dr. Seuss.

This is the coolest book ever, giving tons of political cartoons and history mixed well together. I can't wait to use this with my 6th grade history students.

Awesome learning tool! I use tons of cartoons in my history class - this is PERFECT! I wish I could find more books like this!!
