I'm a cat person mainly, so of course I bought "The French Cat" first. "The French Dog" follows the same scent, by imaging dogs is magnificent French surroundings. These are gorgeous portraits of pets with an incredible backdrop. I did enjoy "The French Cat" more, simply because of my love for cats, but this volume was worth every franc! Highly recommended!

The book is just OK. Ms McKenna has selected a sort of dull, sepia shade for the photographs - lots of green it seems. It lacks the crisp and lush and colorful impact I had hoped for. After all, she is photographing in France. Lots of opportunity for detail, nuance and contrast. Sadly, this was lacking. The photographs all seemed rather soft focus. I am not an expert in design and layout, but there seemed not to be enough white margin space to really set off the full page photographs. And I was not wild about the quality of the paper. Maybe I was expecting more of a glossy product and this was softer sheen. The dogs themselves are too adorable. Ms McKenna does a great job of capturing their personalities.
Great book -- especially enjoyed the photography. I appreciated the creative direction of the book and the light feel of the subject. I could enjoy the imagery without feeling like I was reading an encyclopedia. I will share this book with family and friends!
If you LOVE dogs, and/or France, you will love this book!Such beautiful photos using gorgeous settings and scenery.I also liked learning how differently dogs are treated/looked upon in France also. Oh, and the little doggie who lost his best friend-heart piercing! Just looking at his sad lil face and looking into his eyes you can see his depth of pain.Gorgeous book!
I already owned Rachael Hale McKenna's "The French Cat" book so this was a no brainer. It does not disappoint. Lovely photos transport you to wonderful French villages in which to admire these amazing creatures! Love everything about this book. Thank you!
This book is beautiful! The photography is amazing but I love how it chronicles the synergy of man and dog in France! Dogs are really that integral of daily life for the French. The first time I went Paris, I was enamored that people took their dogs everywhere! Markets, parks and work! I would love to live that lifestyle...or better yet, be that dog!
