Service learning has become an institutionalized practice in higher education. Students are sent out to disadvantaged communities to paint, tutor, feed, and help organize communities. Chapters offer strong critiques of service learning practices from the lack of adequate training and supervision, to problems of communication and issues of diversity. The book's conclusion offers ways to improve service learning so that future endeavors can be better at meeting the needs of the communities and the students who work in them.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I learned a lot. I have been doing service learning with students for years, but this book laid out a lot of ideas and issues for me that I had not really thought about before.
I received the book promptly. The book was just what was needed for my class. I unfortunately did not use the book for very long due to me dropping this class (Community Organizations and Service Learning.) Thank you
