As a college photography professor who has done a comprehensive review, I can say this is one of the better books on the market. I used to require that my students purchase it, BUT Pearson has gotten greedy. AT ~$60 IT IS FANTASTICALLY OVERPRICED! I cannot in good conscience ask any of my debt steeped students to buy it. For a thin paperback like this, $20-40 would be a fair price, which is what it used to cost.Although it is kind of the front runner for college digital photography textbooks, it lacks (as do all the others) a good illustrated discussion of sensor size versus normal lens focal length versus ISO noise versus image quality. Also it's coverage of smartphones and their technical parameters and capabilities could be improved.Horenstein's Digital Photography book is a good alternative.
This book is way overpriced. I needed it as a text book for a class. The information it contains is just an overview of some of the main concepts to digital photography. You can find this information for free online and save your money for a book with more in depth information.
This book provides very clear information on the concepts and principles of photography. It was required for a class that I am currently taking and I have not yet finished reading it. However, what I have read clarified many important concepts, such as depth of field, about which I was unclear. I feel much more competent and confident with my camera and my pictures have improved. It is an excellent introduction. If you are an "intermediate" photographer, you may find the concise explanations a nice review. If you are an advanced photographer, you probably don't need this book.
I used this for my photography class. I did not need it much for the class although I enjoy the book. It has a lot of helpful information in it if you want to learn photography this is the book for you!
Plenty to learn, but such a beautiful way to learn it. A Short Course in Photography provides clear explanations of all photography elements with beautifully photographed examples throughout. While I've already marked up my copy and bent back its pages for easy reading, I've appreciated the way it "wears" --it doesn't seem to at all as it maintains a very sturdy, well-bound appearance.

This book is a very good for anyone looking to master a DSLR camera. It have value information on F-stop, lighting, focus, and more.
Very good detailed intro book. Just wish it wasn't so expensive so my photo students could afford it.
