I am not a beginner, and I know this is a beginner's book, but... yeah, it shows you 50 different styles of eyes, all drawn from straight-ahead view. All with the EXACT same steps, which is sort of cool, but it's pretty repetitive. (I'm sure the text is just a copy-and-paste job.)What would have been nice (and probably worth more than a buck) would have been to see how to translate these eye shapes to profile view, and 3/4 view.I'm sure I can figure it all out, and this is a nice source of ideas, I've spent a dollar on worse things.
I got this book because I simply can't seem to get eyes right. I can now! This is a very easy book to use and I love it in digital form because I can carry it around with me all the time. And the price!!??!! It's worth ten times that price. I'll be checking out his other books now!
This book is a little misleading. A quick google search brings up just about everything in this book. The book isn't "How to Draw" its "look at what i drew and do that" curious on how i drew that? google it.
I am a artist, I like to draw and I am not to bad at it which makes this a very good complementary book for me. Probably not a "teach me how to draw insanely awesome creative anime eyes" kind of book but if you already know how, just need some refreshers, a reference to a different style, or just getting started, this book, for 99 cents, can't be beat. It is a little repetitive but with any how to book, repetition is key to memorization. Also what better way to learn to draw then to learn how others do it. The drawing part is considered the easy part, the creativity is the most difficult; that is something you need to learn and develop on your own.
I really didn't think I needed this book - but I so did. I'm not a huge fan of Manga, but these simple examples are a great way to practice eye expression and character design. To put it simply: I learned a lot and I had fun! It's not very long. In fact, I was so disappointed when I finished, I went back and started again. I'm look forward to the rest of this series. I like that BPHP has taken a "focused" (sorry) study of the various Manga features. I highly recommend - whether you're a fan of Manga or just looking for an interesting way to warm up before drawing.
I found this little book very helpful. I have never drawn cartoons and thought It would helpful in getting started . it was but cartooning like this needs a lot of practice it is not an extension of ones talent.Start slowly and move through the book .
this book teaches eyes exactly the way I wanted. both the text and picture guides are clear and easy to follow. Pictures are a good size and very clear. text is informative and easy to follow. Great variety in different types of eyes. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.
These books are ok, and worth the lower price I paid for the kindle. I do not think I would buy the paper version. Since I often buy on kindle first and buy paper if I think I could use as a daily reference,
