Interpreting GI biopsies can be treacherous, especially in the outpatient setting where we receive little (if any) clinical and/or endoscopic information. I was looking for a concise, efficient text that would include differential diagnoses and potential caveats for different scenarios, especially while working with biopsy material. This book contains plenty of useful information, but it's not what I was hoping for. Tiny nuggets of wisdom are often buried in huge paragraphs of text that I don't have time to read during a busy workday, and certainly I have found no unique insights or pearls in regards to working with limited biopsy material. I would not buy again.
This is a very helpful book, covering a wide range of non-neoplastic pathologic processes in the GI system (apparently, volume 2 is coming out soon and will cover neoplasia). The texts are concise, straight to the point and focus on important tips and hints that help you nail the correct diagnosis. Additionally, the authors provide relevant clinical information on certain diseases, which is great for clinico-pathologic correlation. I rely on the biopsy interpretation series for most of my readings nowadays and this book is a very welcomed addition to my collection. I highly recommend it.
This book is well written. A good quick reference for routine GI bx signouts. I also appreciate some of the practical recommendations (e.g. "at our institution we interpret XXXX with YYYYY comments").
Best single reference for this subject. Color photos, additional material and internet access to text and photos are worth the extra dollars.
