The Profession of Dietetics: A Team Approach is essential for a dietetics major. This is not your typical textbook with pages and pages of information that you will be tested on later. This textbook shows you all of your options when you are entering into a career in nutrition and dietetics and also how to achieve your career. The beginning of the book starts out with the history of dietetics which provides a lot of valuable information such as a quote from Babylonian stone tablets, "If a man has pain inside, food and drink coming back to his mouth...let him refrain from eating onions for three days." This writing was from around 2500 B.C. and this is the first known written dietary recommendation. As a living organism we live off of food and we need to know the adequate amounts of everything that we intake. The book’s first chapter describes how food and health have always directly correlated throughout history. Although this is true the profession of dietetics has progressed rapidly in the past 100 years. I liked that the book used evidence of prenatal dietary prescription from the bible. The book shows you a profile of a professional including their background and answers many of the questions that may arise. It also includes suggested activities, selected websites, suggested readings, and references that I have found to be very helpful. This book is very easy to read, it is as if the author is in your head. Once a question arises after reading a section it seems that it is the title or theme of the next section. So therefore your questions are answered immediately. Now that may not be the case for everyone but this was my experience. The layout of the chapters flow very well. The authors use of titles and clearly defined subtitles help organize all of your thoughts.
