This ebook is organized into several parts, all of which are quite interesting. The first is general resume writing tips. If you're just putting together your first resume, these are particularly helpful. Even if you already have a resume, some of the tips might help you to clean up your sales pitch. The second part are three special reports that discuss the jobs most in demand, optimal places to work, and a focus on the future job market. While short, I really found these to be useful. Finally, the third part is the hundreds of sample resumes - please note, they are not included in the ebook (probably due to the high download cost if they were part of the Kindle file). Rather, at the back of the book is a code to login to the website to download the sample resumes (as a pdf file). Overall, very helpful ebook, and the sample resumes provide useful examples of what different resumes might look like for dozens of different careers.
I believe it will be very helpful with rewriting my resume and cover letter. Additionally, the author has provided helpful assistance with sending the PDF version. The TOC was not readily visible to me on my kindle edition. However, the TOC and index are cover everything I needed to search for. Definitely a must have if you must do a resume quickly.
As difficult as getting a job is these days, it's great to have a handy resource like STEAL THIS RESUME available. I was fortunate to get the free download, but the book is well-worth its modest price. Containing everything one would need to choose a career, search for a job-opening, and apply, it's written in an upbeat style that fosters confidence and determination. The how-to instructions are very helpful, but I was especially pleased by the examples of cover letters the reader is invited to use. STEAL THIS RESUME provides up-to-date, practical, and essential advice and information for the job-seeker - like having a knowledgeable friend at your side to make the task less intimidating.
Mark contacted me to write a review of his book (and therefore provided a copy to me) and what timing! I have worked for the same company for 22 years and while have held various jobs, do not currently have a resume.....and any smart business person will tell you that having one on hand is a very smart idea because you never know when you might need to have one. While I admit I still have not written a resume for myself, I was very impressed with the buzz words, basics, formats and examples provided in this book. I know that I will be able to create that amazing resume that will wow potential employers at some point in the future!I have to give this 5 paws, it is that good! Now you can get the tips and such for free from Mark's website, but not the examples and cover sheets. I have to say, this book is well worth the $4.95 it costs to get good guided help and so many examples for various industries that you would be crazy not to spend the money if you are looking to write or update your resume. The examples you get cover a variety of industries and even if your specific industry is not covered there is bound to be something close that would help you in creating the perfect resume and cover letter.originally reviewed for StoreyBookReviews.com
Sending out a resume is a frightening business. All your eggs are in that one basket -- your life and hopes on a single page. You had better get it right. This book is a collection hundreds of resume templates, each of which "gets it right." Just substitute your real facts for the examples and you have a professional level document that will please anyone in human resources. The resumes are specific to job type and range from accounting through health care to skilled labor/blue collar. The "miscellaneous" and "entry level" forms should cover about anything not under a specific job type. I was impressed with the inclusion of details I might have forgotten to include (like, checking for counterfeit bills, under "Cashier Position.") Along with the example resumes are tips on how to write one from scratch, how to format, and using "power words" to increase the reader's interest in your cover letter. Appendices list jobs available now, locations for future jobs, and best employment opportunities. All this information at an unbeatable price. I'm recommending this book to my daughter who is just starting a job hunt, and to anyone else at that difficult point in life.
"Steal This Resume" is laid out in a format of the job you want. Want a job in accounting? Petterson has a sample resume for you. Education? He's got you covered. Peterson also includes samples of cover letters. I have never gotten the hang of the cover letter. Cover letters are a first impression. How much should I say? Petterson gives sample letters that will entice any executive or human resources screener. To be fair, anyone needing this reasonably priced resource will go to exactly the field that best fits the job for which they're applying. Hence the title, "Steal this Resume." At the end of the book Petterson includes 3 special reports about coming trends in employment. This is a book that I wish was available years ago. It would have been my employment bible. If you know someone who is ready to enter the workforce or is looking to make a job change, give them the gift of "Steal this Resume." You will not regret the decision.
