Resume is a summary of background, qualifications and skills which is being required by most, if not all, employers. Creating resume is one basic thing that one should know when applying for a job. Most people know how it is basically made but only a few knows how to write a good one. With this book, though it was written specifically for IT professionals, I was able to pick great tips and techniques that I can use in the future. To point out a few things, when to use the bullets, which part of the resume can be written in bold, the importance of standard spacing and what specific signs or marks to avoid. I haven't expected I would find some formatting tutorials since this book is for IT professionals, but as a non-IT person, it was truly helpful for me. And that made this book useful not only for IT professionals but also for other people who are in a different field who are looking for ways to make their resume better. This book is great! Written comprehensively, easy-to-understand and extremely informative. Highly recommended!
I'm helping my husband with his resume, and as a non-tech person, this book was very easy to understand and follow. The *only* drawback to this book is the lack of a table of contents. This book is about 150 pages, so I had to keep scrolling through dozens of pages to get what I wanted. (i.e: from the resume sample at the very end of the book, to the chapters about parts of a resume, which are in the first third of the book. I have an older Kindle, so I don't know if that's it.
One of the things that I liked best about this book was that it was written by someone who has extensive on the job experience. Allan is not someone who is just writing or speaking to hear his head rattle, he is someone who held a position where he hired people and knew what to look for. He outlines the skills that are the most important to have on your resume, and how exactly to write out your work experience. Another thing that was very helpful about this book was that he included a sample resume. This book was very helpful.
I have checked several books on how to write effective and compelling CVs and this is by far the best. In addition to examples of CVs for different professions it offers unparalleled info on the best formats, types, sections, editing, CVs and cover letters. It is packed full with useful tips and examples that are very easy to follow. This book is a comprehensive look at resumes, with lots of suggestions and examples to help guide you on the way. A good investment for anyone looking for the next job.
This is the most detailed book I think I've ever read on how to write a professional resume. The author gives a comprehensive look at writing resumes and offers an in depth look at each part. He also explains to the reader what needs to be on the resume, and what is better left off. I appreciate that he went into such detail and clarified some of the mysteries around creating a good IT resume. Very good information.
Very thorough book for professionals in the IT industry wanting to create a resume. The book gave detailed examples of how to organize and optimize your resume to look professional and stand out. There's also a useful section on writing cover letters which I personally have a hard time doing, so very helpful for me! The authors also listed tutorials on how to get accounts set up with the major online career sites.
This book was very informative. It had some great advice. However the entire book is catered to the IT field. That is great if you are in the IT field, but if you are not then it's not very helpful. It would have been nice if the author had included examples of resumes that are correctly written as examples. Oh well. All in all, it's a very helpful book.
I wouldn't go into the IT field without checking out this one first. Well-written and comprehensive, provides all of the tools necessary to not be "lost at sea" trying to find a job in the computer science field. Also provides very solid resume writing advice that could be applied to other professions, as well.
