This is a great book for those of us "non pro" photographers who are asked to "do a favor" for the bride and groom. A bad position to be put in. Dan gives us good, easy to understand examples of what to do and what not to do that will make the experience better for all involved. I have seen some horrible wedding photos from pros who could have used much of the information in this book. If I could add one tip it would be to show up dressed for the wedding you are shooting, try to be neutral, wear soft soled shoes so you don't make noise moving around the room to get your shots. It shouldn't need to be said but sadly I've been to weddings where the photographer is the most obvious person in the room.Follow the advice in this book and you won't go wrong! This review was written by Mrs. dev-dave.
I thought the book was pretty comprehensive as to the proper poses and type of poses to take. The people who left a low review weren't interested in the subject matter or basically stated that they were looking for something else (focus, lighting etc.) did not read the product description before they got the book. These items are discussed in other volumes. Overall a good primer for a beginner.
Like most fairly serious amateurs, I've done a little pro work and have been asked or have volunteered to do backup and occasionally primary duty as photog for weddings of friends and kids and friends of kids. Even so, this book taught me some very helpful ideas and answered some lingering questions and will be a studied read before the next wedding I shoot. It's quite comprehensive, suggests other ways to learn and practice the trade, and cautions about common causes of failure. Well worth the read even if you merely want to make a gift to one happy couple of a few shots and don't intend to enter pro work.
The author presents a short yet thorough guide for the amateur photographer to comprehend the minutiae of "photographing weddings". There is so much more to consider and no time for "do overs"! Preparation is vital and will set you apart from the crowd of you follow these tips.
Dan covers quite a bit in his ebook. While it gives a lot of information about shooting wedding photos, I did use several of the suggestions to take pictures of my son and daughter in law for their fall/winter pics. Some of the poses (and basic lists) should be a staple in every photographers repertoire. I took a few simple suggestions from the book and got back some amazing shots! Thanks Dan!
How to shoot weddings like a pro is highly recommended. This book is not a idiots paint by number textbook, but trigger every normal person that can handle a camera to improve their wedding photos whether it is just for your own keeping or as a paid novice in the industry. I can recommend this book to every young photographer who want to test the wedding waters. Even an old wedding photographer like myself enjoyed reading this book.
Common sense is not always common. I love "How to Shoot Weddings Like a Pro", gives lists of equipment to bring, advice on assistants, preparation for the big day and lists of must take pictures. It is a good guide to ensure that this once in a lifetime event is safely preserved. I like Dan's sense of humor, and he gives every photographer a chance to be the best.
This book had great tips for the amateur photographer who want to shoot a wedding. Shooting a wedding can be done with just an amateur photographer but after reading this book I would not recommend it. There are a lot of important parts and too many places to be. You would need at least three or four photographer for that brides special day so nothing is missed. Would not recommend that an amateur start of with a wedding by themselves. Great book with helpful step by step tips.
