When I first saw the cover before it was released, I got the impression that it was just a collection of pretty photos. One night I spied it in a NYC bookstore and I immediately bought it, not knowing what to expect.Boy was I wrong - it is an incredible collection of images. The main criteria is that they must contain anything that is shaped like a heart. Some are very obvious and some are not so obvious but you can view the obscure ones as a puzzle - trying to find the shape. Not all of them are in the same position - some are turned upside or sideways. Some are singles, and some are multiples.I am absolutely amazed at the sheer variety of different ways that a heart can be viewed out in both natural and man-made world. Within the natural world, fhe photographers found the heart in the flowers, nuts, fruits, shells, clouds, leaves, water, island and even two jellyfish touching each other to form a heart shape. As for the man-made world, its photographers found a plethora of heart shaped forms from hoses, fences, woodcuts, sidewalks, chipped paint, graffiti, and even the traffic light. Some of them are either handmade or hand-assembled.Interesting brief statements made by the photographers are included for some of the digital photos. And the cool thing about this book is that the contributors are from all over the world. It is so interesting to see how things looked differently through the camera lens. But, there's one thing about this book that is not quite accurate - the title itself. As far as I am concerned, it's really more about the heart shape than love.It is my understanding that it is the first in a photography series, and I am looking forward to the next one in this new series. It is a great book chockfull of visual candy!
Full of cool, sometimes quirky, photos of hearts. If you have a heart lover in your household like me, they should have this book. One small item is that there were a few stickers on the back and when I pulled them off a little piece of the cover (where the UPC is) tore off. I was disappointed in that but overall the book is cool.
This book has a lovely feel, the cover is great - quite tactile - and I love the square format. When I first received my copy I tried to rush through, looking for my own contribution (Henna Heart, page 176), but had to keep slowing down to look at all the wonderful photographs others had contributed. I've now had a chance to look more closely at some of the others. What a treat! Some photos are paired with others that compliment them, others have a page to themselves. The range of subjects, angles, colours, is fabulous. This is a feast of a book to come back to time and again. Or a perfect gift for someone you love. Obviously.
This book was a huge hit with both me and my wife. Excellent 'I love you' gift. Now she can't keep her hands off of me! Ha!
I have a special interest in this book because one of my pictures was chosen for the book . On receiving a copy I was both amazed and jealous that there were so many staggering , amazing , colourful and imaginative photographs in this book.To the point that I have rated several in the book " absolutely amazing" .Depends what you like in photography ,but there is a great variety of images that express the subject LOVE through so many different heart designs The book easily makes a good present for someone you might LOVE :-) Think about that one boys !!
This beautifully photographed book is a reminder that images of love can be found all around us. The four-star rating comes from the fact that one of the three copies I ordered arrived with the first 49 pages of the book bound upside down. Quality control issues notwithstanding, it's a lovely book. Kudos to for making the return/replacement process fairly painless.
