This book was obviously put together with the utmost care and enthusiasm for one of America's most prestigious and beautiful campuses. Everything from the introduction, to the photos and the captions are extremely well done.
I purchased this for my father who is a Rice alumni (as was his father and mother). The book is very well constructed and the pictures are quite clear and colorful but the writing lacks depth and character with too much focus of the structure and administration of Rice University and not enough with the people and events that made it so popular with students (and alumni).That being said, the book is a composite of great pictures and is well documented and researched. However, the “richness” of Rice is lacking in narrative and pictures which lead one to believe this is a staid university and not one whose traditions and energy have so influenced the community of scholars.
Great birthday gift for my father! He loves photography and is a Rice alum.
This book is about the beginning of Rice to present day. I was also hoping it would include some pictures from the incredible celebration from October 2012 which it does NOT. That would be my only complaint.
