I just passed the Texas Department of Insurance's General Line Life and Health Agent Exam. I think most of the credit needs to go this manual. I read it from cover to cover and took the practice tests. I gives specific information which appears almost exactly the way it is given on the exam. I urge you to acquire this book if you are taking the exam in nearly any state.
This book is okay! A number of diagrams and tables aren't even explained (see pages 139 and 196) - they are difficult to understand. Many of the concepts are not explained well - like cost basis, MECs (pages 242&243), comparative interest rate method and interest-adjusted net cost method of comparing insurance policies (page 99). It repeats itself a lot and sometimes introduces concepts and terms before it fully explains them in a different section!
I've been studying this book and the NH Law Supplement for the past month and I passed my exam this morning with an 88, passing is a 70! The license handbook is written much better than the law supplement, which was just a copy and paste of NH Insurance regulations.Take note, this book DOES NOT contain any testing software. I bought flash cards and they were OK, I didn't start using them until I had read both books cover to cover twice.This book is on the approved list for preparation by the State of New Hampshire.
I purchased this manual and another in the same category and after receiving both - this was by far the better value, It is 1/3 the price and 4 times the content. Best one I found.
I passed the VA L&H exam mainly using this book and a few free practice exams I found online within a two week timeframe. At first I was a bit skeptical since this is not the most recent edition, but after reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. In my opinion it covers everything you will need to know. I would highly recommend taking a few practice test so you get a chance to review plus get a feel for the wording of the real exam. Attached below is the site I used for practice. This book definitely helped to supplement my online training when I was unable to access a computer. Try it out if you are studying for the life insurance test!
