The examples of drawing are good. The text is so badly written as to make it painful to try and read. The author obviously never read a single one of those sentences out loud. The grammar, word choice, and word order aren't even close to being proper. Clearly there was no editor.
I bought this book as a hard copy, because I had heard about how poor the online version was with adds. When I received it I was so very excited to start using it to improve my art. The only thing I can give the author credit for is that he does know how to draw. The step by step visuals were very helpful, and done well. That's the only reason it received two stars. There was almost no editing done to it whatsoever. Trying to read through the paragraphs was absolutely painful. It's like the writer never even bothered to read over his work, there were so many mistakes. I took a red pen and tried to correct them all, and I feel it would have been easier to re-write the entire thing! Part of being an "author" is knowing how to form sentences, use a variety of word choices, and not make very obvious grammatical errors. He fails in every one of those aspects. However, he is good at art, and I'm sure if he redid the book with a bit of effort into the writing it could be an exceptional guide.
I bought this book along with 5 others, all about drawing manga, and out of all of them, this is probably my least favourite.Pros:It's definite a good book and it focuses heavily on drawing humans and clothes. I've noticed that this book has a lot more words than the others, making each step by step tutorial easier to understand. Also, it's written by a native English speaker so the descriptions are well worded.Cons:The author of this book is definitely NOT Japanese so I questioned the authenticity a little. More over, the author is not even an American manga artist or comic artist. The description only mentions that "he has learned to express himself with drawing in many ways". But overall, the art is not bad, especially the anatomy parts. You'll just have to take the facial features part with a grain of salt, because face it, everyone has their own style, and there not just ONE that's set for manga. However, the MAIN reason I deducted one star from my review is that THE BOOK IS TINY!!!!! It's around the size of half a sheet of paper and only 80 pages long. It makes me wonder if this book was really worth the money.
