A great book for any BSc student of the biological sciences. Back in 2011, I found this book of great use as an introduction to applied biotechnology. The book does not assume the student has any prior knowledge in genetics or biotechnology. The text is easy to understand and concise. Colour diagrams clarify well the sometimes complex processes described in the text, avoiding potential misinterpretation by the reader.A code within the book permits the reader to access, gratis, a large online resource at the publisher's website, though free access only lasts a year. This resource is great. There is a glossary and, for each chapter, there are exercises to complete, multiple choice tests, and slideshows that include photo's, micrographs animations and text. I found the online resource a *great* aid to a clearer understanding of everything in the book.
