I used this textbook to teach my first course to graduate level nursing students. The content was organized by mendelian inheritance, cancer genetics, common diseases, etc. and then genetic counseling and medical geneticists at the end. I would have preferred to intersperse the role of clinical geneticists and aspects of care throughout. The concept of epigenetics was missed. Although there were clinical presentations of genetic conditions in each chapter, I used them as platform to provide personalized care models and stories from families with those conditions. The study questions and online quizzes made the textbook worthwhile for me, so that I did not have to develop questions from scratch.
I'm a first year med student. This book explains the subjects well without delving into too much detail. It has photos and diagrams that are helpful in understanding the text. I used it in conjunction to Robbins Basic Pathology.
This is a fascinating and enjoyable read. There's concepts in this text that I haven't encountered previously and the book is on quality paper with beautiful graphics.I bought a copy for my family member too so they could understand what I do!I would recommend this book not only to serious scientists and students, but because this textbook is so readable, I would also recommend this to high schoolers who may be inspired by the content and have an interest in pursuit of medical genetics.
Good info in easy format.
The best textbook ever.It makes genetics learning very interesting. Sometimes it's difficult to stop reading it.Thank you Elsevier
Was too broad in some areas where I would like to know more. Needs more detail and examples to be a medical school textbook.
