I bought this book to primarily to study for my Neonatal Pediatric specialty( NPS) exam to add to my respiratory credential. The book is easy to read and reference. The material is explained clearly. I correlated the information with what was on the practice exams on the NBRC site and it was spot on everything mentioned on the practice exams was in the book. Also the book comes with a free online part. This is where you get the answers to the practice questions in the book, additional information about vents, and there is a handy outline. This outline has the exam content outline by the NBRC and the book authors correlated what was on the exam outline to where you can find this information in the book. So it gives you a good guide where to find specific information and a starting point to get you studying.
Essential. This book is the essential text book. Some topics are a little behind the times, but not by much. The heart disorder section is confusing. But you need this book to be a respiratory therapist.
The book came fast and in great shape. But honestly it looks like a copy it's all black and white inside even the pictures never had a true text book like that before. Makes me think it may have been a re-make from an original.
This book is comprehensive and well assembled. During the Neonate course I took, it was quite helpful with "fairly" quick reference capabilities. I'm happy with it, and still use it as a reference text. I particularly appreciate the reference material on current ventilators.
A must have book for anyone in medicine. The information was very comprehensive but not filled with unnecessary fluff. This is a great refresher for anyone who has been in medicine for a long time as well as those just entering.
I had this book for my Peds and Neonatal classes. The way the book is organized is pretty poor and a lot of the information that is provided is quite vague. For example, in the chapter that discusses oxygen administration, it goes through each delivery device and tells you that delivering too much oxygen is dangerous. But the book never actually tells you how much that dangerous level is. Granted levels will be different for different age groups, but that information could still be provided in a table of some sort. The chapters that discuss the varying diseases that affect pediatric/neonatal patients are very vague and just give a brief overview of the disease. Unfortunately we don't get to pick which books we use for school. The instructor provided us with tons of supplemental information to make up for these short-comings, but I think a different book all together would have been a better choice.
The only down side to this book is at the end of the chapters there are review questions and the answers are not in the back of the book. Instead you have to log onto a separate web site, which requires you to creat an account and get the answers that way. It's a little troublesome, but otherwise the book is very informative and well written.
this was the book I needed for my fall semester class and all most half the price that the college bok store wanted for it.
