I would disagree that this would be good for a communication major as previously stated. I am taking a Small Groups Communication class which requires this book. This book is terribly basic, and covers nothing in depth to any useful degree. It gives you a lot of the PSY 101 feeling of deja vu. Between PSY 101, Business Ethics, and Writing for Professional I feel all the material in this book has already been covered in those class. I just read the bolded words and move on to the next chapter. If you are fairly early in your college career you may have to actually read this book, if you are further along and see a course with this book you are probably in for a easy ride.
This book has a Harry Potter reference, amongst other terrible things, and is written at an 8th grade reading level. It was my book for a 300 level class, pretty much explaining why education in this country is going down the crapper in comparison to much of the world. Though as another reviewer noted, it's not like communication is a real degree. Amusingly, at points it tries to throw in bits and pieces from other fields, like a really brief poorly-written description of MBTI. I'm kind of blown away at the mint the authors must be making off the 'new' price.
Rented this text book for my Group process class and it's like torture to read. Thank goodness I've only got 2 chapters left.I could barley keep my eyes open reading this book, and I read a lot of text books, but this one is just horrible. If you're a teacher and you're reading this, please don't assign this book for your class...there has got to be a better choice out there. If you are a student and you are assigned this book for your class...good luck...my sympathies are with you.
The book I received was in good condition, I'm just not impressed with the content.
Dictation doesn't work correctly. I hope it gets fixed
Didn't need it after all but too late to return.
It's a college book.....Nothing much to say.
No one LOVES reading textbooks, but this one is manageable. Good examples and practical elements that you can apply to everyday life.Love the kindle version -- I could not get it to open on my Kindle Paperwhite (I'm guessing because of the 'textbook' features that you really need to zoom to be able to view), but it worked great on my iPad.
